Cornelius J. Rhoades (January 10, 1828 – April 19, 1906) was an American Methodist minister and writer. Born in Vermont, he came to Illinois in 1860, where he became the editor of the Christian Advocate and Journal in Springfield and later an editor of the Chicago Record. In 1869 he published his first book, A History of Jacksonville [Illinois]. In 1889 he published a work on The Life of Abraham Lincoln, which was acclaimed by Lincoln's daughter, Mary Todd Lincoln. In 1895 he published a biography of Isaac N.
Arnold which was also well received.
